By age three (when around 90% of our neural pathways have been formed), almost all of us have learned to behave in ways that don’t feel good in order to get needed care/love from adults. These experiences live on in the body - below the layer of the conscious mind. If we don't support them, they'll take the wheel of our behavior and drive us into acting how they want - which is not necessarily how we want.
